Strategically located on the small hill overlooking the valley of the Belcaire River, the Poblat de Sant Josep (Sant Josep Archaeological Site) is one of the most fascinating archaeological legacies in the Region of Valencia.
With a long-standing occupation dating back to the Early Iron Age, this settlement allows you to trace—through its preserved remains—the evolution of the different cultures that inhabited it. The site highlights its period of maximum splendor during the Iberian era, without forgetting the importance of the Roman occupation, as well as the Islamic settlement during the Andalusi period.
Strolling through its streets, you can get a close look at the remains of the defensive walls, towers, houses, and even storehouses that have withstood the test of centuries. Every detail will bring you closer to the daily lives of the people who lived in the settlement: what activities they performed, what they cooked, and how they interacted.

The hill visually dominates the Belcaire valley and connects the Sant Josep area with the natural entrance to the Serra d’Espadà.

How to get to the site
The site is located in the Sant Josep area, in a privileged position on the hill, next to the Hermitage of the Holy Family.

1 Access by stairs
Direct access located next to the entrance to the Cova de Sant Josep, on Passeig de les Coves. It consists of a staircase of around 100 steps leading directly up to the site.
2 Access from the main car park
Starting from the main car park of the Sant Josep area, walk along Carrer del Tenis, turn left onto Carrer l’Ermita and continue along the pavement of the CV-23 towards Alfondeguilla until you reach the square of the Hermitage of the Holy Family, where the entrance to the site is located. You will enjoy a walk of around 450 metres.
